The Arabic word “Malaath” translates to “refuge” or “sanctuary,” symbolizing a place of safety, comfort, and belonging. The project reimagines the mental health community center around the principle of creating healing experiences, where architecture, landscape, and everyday activities become part of the process of care.

Rather than isolating treatment within a conventional clinical environment, Malath brings together therapeutic spaces, private inpatient units, community facilities, and an Awareness Library within a landscape designed around different degrees of privacy and interaction. Activities such as olive picking, communal cooking, walking, and mindfulness create opportunities for purpose, connection, and engagement with nature.

Landscape becomes an active part of the architecture, shaping transitions between care, community, and retreat. The result is a sanctuary where healing is embedded within everyday experience and mental health becomes part of a more open dialogue with the wider community
